At a recent White House dinner, President Donald Trump lavished praise on Google CEO Sundar Pichai. He’s the chief executive officer of Alphabet Inc. and Google. The gathering, attended by various tech executives, took place following a favorable antitrust ruling for Alphabet, which significantly boosted the company’s market capitalization.
On that Thursday, September 4, 2025, Pichai had accompanied First Lady Melania Trump to the White House Task Force on AI Education launch event. They convened in the East Room of the White House, Washington, DC. This event coincided with a notable moment in Pichai’s professional life as he was congratulated by Trump for Alphabet’s recent legal victories.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) initiated an antitrust lawsuit against Google in 2020, alleging that it maintained an illegal monopoly in internet search. A U.S. District Judge, Amit Mehta, delivered a blow to the harsh penalties sought by the DOJ. This decision will give Alphabet a reprieve from breakup. This result increased Alphabet’s market cap by around $230 billion and sent Google stock soaring.
While we were all enjoying dinner, President Trump did something very dramatic. He said, “Well, you had a pretty good day yesterday,” meaning the great ruling. That answer from Pichai produced audible laughter from fellow guests at the table. Curiously, Pichai didn’t challenge Trump when he incorrectly blamed the prosecution of the lawsuit on President Joe Biden.
Throughout, the celebratory dinner underscored Alphabet’s legal victory — but the success of Trump’s larger agenda concerning AI (artificial intelligence). Responding to that call, the administration just released an AI-focused action plan. This plan encompasses an executive order stressing that AI models should not introduce Woke AI or ideological dogmas such as DEI. The plan outlines 90 federal policy actions aimed at accelerating innovation, building AI infrastructure, and enhancing leadership in international diplomacy and security.
The AI Education Task Force event was a fitting demonstration of the administration’s commitment to furthering AI education and innovation. The task force’s initiative is encapsulated in the document titled “Winning the AI Race: America’s AI Action Plan,” which underscores the administration’s strategic objectives in the realm of artificial intelligence.
