Nicole Kidman, the award-winning Oscar-winning actress has filed for divorce. Her and Grammy-winning country crooner Keith Urban’s decision to divorce after almost 19 years of marriage. The filing was made in a Nashville U.S. Bankruptcy Court, officially concluding the storied partnership that began in 2006.
The pair met for the first time back in 2005 at an LA bash hosted by Nicole honoring Aussies in Tinseltown. Standard’s efforts paid off, as their relationship quickly blossomed and culminated in Kidman and Urban’s surprise marriage a year later. Both have been married before. She was previously married to actor Tom Cruise from 1990 – 2001, and they share two grown children together. Kidman and Urban share two daughters, 17 and 14.
Photos TMZ first reported their breakup. They demonstrated how the couple’s negotiated settlement on both ending their marriage and how they would co-parent addressed their mutual needs. As stipulated in this agreement, Kidman will serve as the primary residential custodian for their daughters. She’ll have them for 306 days per year, and Urban will only get to see them for 59 days.
With both Kidman and Urban keeping their film and music careers, the couple is said to earn well over $100,000 each per month. So, neither spouse will request spousal support after the divorce. The divorce process is expected to take a minimum of 90 days to finalize, in accordance with Tennessee law.

As they’ve begun to reflect on their time together, both the Foundation and the Partnership have shared lessons learned from their deepened relationship. As Kidman famously said, “You’re in danger if you think of yourself as the ideal couple.” She added that identifying what’s not working in a partnership is an important first step. Urban praised Kidman’s willfulness, declaring, “Nic overcame every discouraging voice, including some of her own. She made a decision from love, and here we are nearly two decades later.”
Although the distance has been difficult, both parents are dedicated to creating an uplifting place for their daughters to thrive. Lastly, aside from their public comments, they have signed an agreement to not speak ill of each other, or any members of either family. The man and woman desire their progeny to encourage adoring bonds with each progenitor. Their goal is to co-create a culture in which their children thrive across both family environments.
