Al-Muhtadi, a man who allegedly fought with Hamas during the October 7 assault, has been discovered in the United States. He now finds himself at the center of a widespread federal investigation. His involvement was first made public by Joint Task Force October 7, which led to additional scrutiny by the FBI in New Orleans. Al-Muhtadi was set to make his initial federal court appearance on Friday as authorities continue to sift through his past and what he did leading up to the crime.
In June 2024, Al-Muhtadi filled out an electronic visa application from Cairo. He said he wanted to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma and work in either the automotive or restaurant industry. Additionally, on this application, he denied involvement in terrorist activities. He automatically acquired legal permanent residency status when he entered the U.S. in September 2024.
After landing, Al-Muhtadi lived in Tulsa at first, moving there to a May 2025 home, then by early June to a Lafayette, Louisiana, house. Still living in Lafayette, he was able to get a job at one of the local restaurants. His still-active social media and email accounts further paint a troubling picture of his history. These ties include years of service as an officer in a paramilitary group associated with Hamas. According to reports, Al-Muhtadi participated in firearms training with this militia. He worked as an operative for the Gaza-based military wing of the DFLP.
Together with the Joint Task Force October 7 and the FBI, we kicked off an investigation into Al-Muhtadi. They moved quickly after discovering the important information. This investigation brought to light disturbing allegations about his actions before and after coming to the U.S.
“After hiding out in the United States, this monster has been found and charged with participating in the atrocities of October 7 – the single deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust,” – Pam Bondi
The investigation into Al-Muhtadi’s activities extensively uncovered threatening and violent statements he made online. He was said to have added, “there is kidnapp[ing], and it’s a game, which the best will be.” In addition to this, he posted phrases like “prepare” and “bring the guns,” which suggests alignment or willingness to act violently.
As Al-Muhtadi awaits his federal court appearance, authorities have expressed their determination to address any threats posed by individuals with extremist ties. The FBI and Joint Task Force October 7 remain committed to continued protection of our national security. They do due diligence and actively investigate any potential links to terrorist organizations.
Al-Muhtadi is now detained at a regional correctional center in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, east of Lafayette. Though the case has been a hotbed of press and public interest, it affects our country’s national security most directly. The saga sheds light on the complex immigration procedures for people associated with extremist organizations.
