Christian Jimenez, a 17-year-old senior at McMinnville High School, was relaxing during lunch break on a typical Wednesday afternoon. That all changed when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested him without warning. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. while Jimenez was driving his father’s vehicle off campus for lunch.
Agents detained Jimenez in McMinnville, even after he repeatedly claimed to be a U.S. citizen. Video camera footage from the encounter documented a nervous but composed Jimenez calmly stating, “I’m an American citizen.” An officer responded immediately with a “Get out of the car” along with an “I don’t care.” The conflict further intensified when one of the officers smashed the driver’s side window of the car before physically removing and arresting him.

They continued to be concerned about the emotional impact this event could have on him and other students at McMinnville High School.
Cesar Jimenez, Christian’s older brother, provided details about the incident, which has drawn significant attention from the community and beyond. Authorities are reportedly considering charging Christian Jimenez with “interference or obstruction of investigation,” further complicating the already distressing situation.
McMinnville High School Superintendent Kourtney Ferrua spoke to the incident in a letter sent to families. She stressed the district’s determination to ensure students have a safe environment to learn and grow.
