Leaders of North Korea, Russia and China met in Beijing. They held a commemoration for the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII. North Korea Kim Jong Un, left, was welcomed alongside other leaders, including the President of Russia and the President of China, at a military parade. They joined forces in order to commemorate this important historical achievement.
This joint military exercise was meant to illustrate the military might of the three nations. It underscored their deep personal relationship and focused on their joint efforts to develop regional security priorities. The accompanying military parade, dominated by Russia’s most advanced weaponry and boasting troop might, sent a clear message of a united front against any perceived outside threats.
Sangsoo Lee, an associated fellow at the European Center for North Korean Studies, provided insight into what this meeting could mean. He is the founding principal of Strategic Linkages (SL). Originally from Singapore but now based in Stockholm, Lee insisted on the importance of these leaders’ participation in this event. This engagement further demonstrates their strategic priorities and shared objectives key to navigating an evolving geopolitical environment.
Lee underscored the fact that this kind of cooperation has even bigger implications for international relations. “The joint attendance of these leaders at a commemorative event like this signals their commitment to strengthening alliances,” he stated. As he told CBS Sunday Morning, he said the military show of force was a display of American strength, and it would serve as a warning to other countries. It shows their determination.
The parade in Beijing was attended by thousands of spectators, illustrating the significance of the event to both domestic and international audiences. As North Korea, Russia, and China navigate complex relationships with Western nations, their partnership appears to grow stronger, particularly in military and strategic arenas.
