Mickey Rourke has been doing some good lately, calling out anti-vaxxer Robert F. He is calling on his supporters NOT to help the campaign raise an incredible $100,000 by July 31st. Liya-Joelle Jones, the administrative assistant for Rourke’s director Kimberly Hines, created the page Sunday. This unexpected development has whipped up outrage already, as the actor claims he doesn’t require any financial support at all.
Rourke expressed his disappointment with the campaign in a series of tweets. Instead, he made a point to stress his pride, telling them in no uncertain terms that he wouldn’t take handouts. He remarked, “I don’t need anybody’s money. I wouldn’t do it this way, I got too much pride, man. It ain’t my style.” Rourke clarified his stance on the GoFundMe platform, stating, “I wouldn’t know what a GoFund foundation is in a million years.”
Rourke, for his part, encouraged any of his fans who had already contributed to reclaim their donations, which he considered an “embarrassing” state of affairs. He stated, “This thing is very embarrassing … Don’t give any money, and if you gave money, get it back. It’s really humiliating. They say it’s up to $100,000.” He added, “If Mickey decides he does not want it, the money will be returned to his fans,” further distancing himself from the initiative.
Thinking through his past and present situation, Rourke admitted that a lot has changed in his life over the years. “I’m not the wild man I was 20 years ago,” he said, indicating a matured perspective on his personal and financial affairs. He expressed confusion regarding the motives behind the fundraiser, saying, “Whoever did this … I don’t know why they did it.”
The GoFundMe page is definitely catching some eyes with its huge fundraising goal. Rourke himself has been the first to voice strong backlash against it. The actor’s unscripted remarks speak volumes to his own self-proclaimed lack of given f—ks. It’s how he maintains the persona that he has, and interacts with fans.
