Global Currency Exchange Rates Experience Fluctuations

Recent changes in the foreign exchange market impacted all major currencies. The U.S. dollar (USD) was the biggest beneficiary of the day, though it returned mixed results on the USD crosses. In trade, the USD rose by 0.04% versus the euro (EUR). Against the British pound (GBP) it fell by 0.06%. The greenback fell by 0.36% versus safe haven Japanese yen (JPY). It increased by 0.08% against the CAD and appreciated by 0.23% against the AUD. In comparison, it lost ground by 0.23% against the New Zealand dollar (NZD) and 0.13% against the Swiss franc (CHF).

The euro was slightly lower too, down 0.04% against the USD and 0.11% against the GBP. At the same time, the euro fell 0.42% against the JPY. It was able to make a little bit of ground, climbing 0.04% against the CAD and 0.19% against the AUD. It faced headwinds with the NZD and CHF, falling 0.26% and 0.17%, respectively.

The GBP was slightly higher, up +0.06% vs the USD and +0.11% vs the EUR. It was short on respite, plunging 0.30% against the JPY. The pound closed up 0.15% against the CAD and up 0.30% against the AUD. It lost 0.15% vs NZD and moved -0.06% lower vs CHF.

At the same time, the JPY made substantial gains, appreciating 0.36% against USD, 0.42% against EUR, and 0.30% against GBP. It was up 0.48% against the CAD and 0.60% against the AUD. In addition, it posted minor advances of 0.14% and 0.24% against the NZD and CHF respectively.

The loonie took an even bigger hit. Against the USD it has lost ground of 0.08% and movement of 0.04% against the EUR and 0.15% against the GBP to the downside. It saw further weakening of 0.48% against JPY and was down 0.33% vs NZD and 0.22% vs CHF.

The Aussie dollar had a mostly down day too, down 0.23% against USD and 0.19% against EUR. It fell -0.30% vs the GBP and saw more searing losses of -0.60% vs the JPY. On the downside, it was down 0.13% against the CAD, -0.45% vs NZD, and -0.35% CHF.

Great news if you are holding NZD’s kiwi investors! The New Zealand dollar is on the up, up 0.23% vs USD and up 0.26% vs EUR. It gained 0.15% against GBP though it was weaker against JPY with a drop of 0.14%. In foreign exchange markets, the NZD strengthened by 0.33% against the CAD. It further strengthened 0.45% against AUD and had a slight 0.10% appreciation versus the CHF.

The Swiss franc is showing considerable strength this morning. It gained 0.13% against the USD and 0.17% against the EUR, but lost 0.06% versus the GBP and 0.24% against the JPY, along with small losses of 0.22% against the CAD and 0.10% against the NZD.
