Timothy Busfield, the highly accomplished actor most recognized for his legendary roles in Field of Dreams and Thirtysomething has turned himself into Albuquerque police. This comes on the heels of an arrest warrant request issued one week ago on January 9. He has been charged with several serious offenses, including two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor under 16. These charges constitute child abuse against two 11-year-old twin brothers he choreographed with on the set of The Cleaning Lady.
Revenge of the Nerds, Field of Dreams, The West Wing and Thirtysomething actor Busfield had once again gone above the fold. On Christmas Day, he publicly denied those allegations in a video statement released to TMZ. He asserted his innocence, saying, “They’re all lies. I did not do anything to those little boys, and I’m going to fight it.”
Things reached a boiling point when Albuquerque police obtained an arrest warrant for Busfield. This was a rare move, taken due to the gravity of the allegations levied against him. In light of his May 2023 surrender, we understand that prosecutors moved to keep him in jail through the length of his trial. There is still a chance that he might be released on bond with conditions.
Timothy Busfield’s legal troubles are not new. In 1994, a 17-year-old background actor from the movie Little Big League charged that he’d raped her. Further, in 2012, another woman even claimed that Busfield groped her at an LA movie theater. This troubling pattern hasn’t stopped Busfield’s work in the industry, however, even with these previous allegations.
His wife Melissa Gilbert has taken to social media to share her support for him, as she has throughout this difficult journey. In response to the Yarn allegations, she deleted her Instagram account on Sunday. This decision marks Davina’s deep commitment to her privacy as she develops her story. The couple has been married since 2013.
Warner Bros., the studio that produces The Cleaning Lady, conducted its own investigation into Timothy Busfield. What they did find was not enough evidence to back up the charges against him. This internal review could have serious consequences for Busfield’s professional future as the battle over the still ongoing legal proceedings unfolds.
