Chicago Surgeon Indicted in Double Homicide of Ex-Wife and Her Partner

Michael David McKee, a 39-year-old vascular surgeon previously residing on the South Side of Chicago, is in jail. He is now charged with the double homicide of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her partner Dr. Spencer Tepe. Under that assumption, authorities arrested McKee on January 10, 2026. A comprehensive inquiry tied him to the shooting murders that had occurred earlier in the month.

Monique Tepe, 39, and Dr. Spencer Tepe, 37, were found shot to death in their house. This heartbreaking incident caused law enforcement to react and conduct an urgent investigation. Detectives were able to match McKee’s vehicle to being in the area around the victims’ home at the time of the shooting. Bell alleges in his complaint that surveillance footage shows a person matching McKee’s description walking down a shadowy path adjacent to the victims’ house. That was the same night of the Trang Killings.

On January 12, 2026, McKee walked into the plaintiff’s entrance of the courtroom in Rockford, IL. Upon arrival, he waived his right to an extradition hearing. He has since been remanded to detention awaiting subsequent judicial proceedings. The next court date in Winnebago County is set for January 23, 2026.

Additional evidence gathered during the course of the investigation corroborated authorities’ case against McKee. During the arrest, investigators recovered a firearm from his residence as well. It matched the ballistic evidence collected from the crime scene, establishing critical links between him and the homicides.

Elaine Bryant, a representative of the local law enforcement agency, praised the public assistance. Their assistance throughout the investigation was instrumental.

“We want to thank our community specifically for stepping up, reaching out, giving us the information and being open to sharing that with us,” – Elaine Bryant

The heartbreaking case has rattled the state and national community, beyond the town of Locust Fork, to reconsider domestic violence and its effects that ripple far and wide. While the investigation is ongoing, our hope is that justice will be served not just for Monique, but for Spencer Tepe as well.
