Navigating the New Cookie Policies: What Users Need to Know

Recent updates in cookie policies have introduced a wide range of durations and storage methods for user data across various platforms. These changes aim to enhance user privacy while allowing users to stay informed through curated content and newsletters.

Cookies now vary significantly, with durations ranging from 21 days to an extensive 3650 days. For both browser and app usage, the standard cookie duration is set at 730 days. Specifically, the cookie durations for applications are stored in device storage with the prefix "IABTCF_", while website cookies are saved under the name "FCCDCF," with a maximum lifespan of 390 days.

Importantly, user choices regarding privacy will become invalid after 390 days. Once this period lapses, any previous selections will be overwritten if new privacy preferences are established. This system allows for a streamlined approach to data management, ensuring that user consent is current and reflective of their preferences.

A total of 134 vendors under the Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) and 64 advertising partners are available to process personal data. This extensive network enables users to keep their information secure while still benefiting from tailored advertising experiences. Data collected through apps or websites will be processed and stored according to these preferences, further empowering users in managing their privacy.

Users can also opt to receive daily email updates from up to five favorite companies, ensuring they stay informed on topics of interest. The newsletters cover a broad spectrum of subjects, including markets, personal finance, policy and politics, start-ups, technology, and more. This feature supplements the comprehensive access users have to the digital epaper, which includes tools for clipping, saving, and sharing articles.

Additionally, the platform provides access to newspaper archives dating back to 2006, allowing users to explore historical content. Subscribers also receive preferential invites to exclusive Business Standard events, enhancing their engagement with the publication and its offerings.

For those utilizing accelerated mobile pages (AMP), choices can be stored in local storage tagged with "amp-store." This feature is designed to enhance the user experience on mobile devices while maintaining privacy standards. Furthermore, cookie durations for some features are set at 90 days or 180 days, providing users with flexibility in how their data is utilized.
