The Earlybirds Club is transforming the nightlife scene with parties designed for women, trans, and non-binary individuals who balance early-morning responsibilities with the desire to unwind and dance. Founded by Laura Baginski and Susie Lee, childhood friends from high school, the club offers a unique experience starting at 6 p.m. and wrapping up by 10 p.m. The first event took place in Chicago and has since expanded across the United States, capturing hearts from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and even garnering international interest.
This thriving venture has turned into a full-time business for Baginski and Lee, who have received requests to bring their nostalgic playlist and vibrant atmosphere to cities as far as Dubai, Mumbai, and Vancouver. The music selection is a nostalgic journey through the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s — a perfect backdrop for attendees who enjoy dressing up in vintage outfits and hairstyles reminiscent of those decades. Baginski noted the enthusiasm with which partygoers embrace the vintage theme, even sharing an anecdote about a woman wearing the same dress she wore to her 1989 prom.
“One woman wore the same dress that she wore to her 1989 prom, which is like, kudos, you win,” – Baginski
The Earlybirds Club has become a sanctuary for many, offering a therapeutic escape from everyday life. As Baginski described, the experience feels necessary and rejuvenating in today's times.
“Everyone is smiling and screaming lyrics at the top of their lungs. It’s an experience that, especially in these times, feels so necessary and therapeutic,” – Baginski
Despite challenges such as wildfires disrupting events, the club's appeal remains strong, drawing in diverse crowds. Attendees range from women in their 60s and 70s to younger generations, creating a rich tapestry of ages and experiences. This intergenerational mix is celebrated by Baginski, who enjoys seeing younger women appreciate the presence of more seasoned partygoers.
“We’ve also had women in their 60s, sometimes in their early 70s, coming, which is so cool. I think younger women love to see that – I know I do,” – Baginski
The club's success also stems from its deep personal connection for its founders. Lee's journey as a cancer survivor and Baginski's background in journalism and marketing for non-profits infuse the club with resilience and purpose. For many attendees, this environment provides a rare opportunity to prioritize personal joy amidst life's demands.
“It’s important for us to remember to create joy for ourselves – because in this age group, we don’t do that,” – Lee
The Earlybirds Club fosters a strong sense of community. Attendees often bring their daughters, extending the fun across generations and forming lasting connections. This sense of belonging was evident when their first anniversary party sold out a Chicago venue with a capacity of 1,000 people.
