Over a million Igloo brand rolling coolers have been recalled across North America, following reports of severe injuries linked to their use. The recall includes 1.06 million 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers in the United States, with an additional 47,000 units recalled in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico. The decision comes after 12 individuals reported injuries, which included fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations, all attributed to the cooler's handle.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) spearheaded the recall after receiving customer reports detailing these injuries. The CPSC has advised consumers to discontinue the use of the handle immediately to prevent further incidents. Customers are encouraged to contact Igloo for a replacement handle to ensure safe usage of the product.
The recall affects nearly 60 different models of Igloo coolers, which were sold through various channels including Amazon, Igloo's official website, Costco, and Target. These coolers were available for purchase from January 2019 and were expected to remain on the market until 2025. Retail prices for these products ranged from $80 to $140.
Igloo initiated the recall in response to customer injury reports that highlighted serious safety concerns. The CPSC is responsible for overseeing the recall process, ensuring that affected customers receive adequate support and replacement parts. This development underscores the importance of product safety and consumer protection.
