However, the judge described the rescission of this memo as being "in name only," insisting the administration's actions "violate the plain text" of his order.
The governor of Colorado, alongside the state's two senators, highlighted the critical impact of the freeze. They reported over $570 million in federal funding remained inaccessible in Colorado alone. In a letter sent to the Office of Management and Budget, they emphasized the severe consequences of prolonged uncertainty on state programs, stating, "The consequences of this continued uncertainty are severe and could have a devastating effect on the programs and people this funding supports."
Democratic attorneys general from 22 states and Washington D.C. have challenged the funding freeze, filing a lawsuit against the administration. This legal action represents nearly two dozen states seeking relief from what they argue is an unlawful halt on vital financial resources. The judge's decision marks the first instance where a court found the Trump administration in violation of a court order, which had paused the implementation of new policy rollouts.
Despite the federal judge's order to "immediately restore frozen funding," the Trump administration has yet to comply fully. Some federal programs have not seen their funding restored, prompting further judicial review. The administration plans to appeal the judge's decision, potentially prolonging the uncertainty surrounding federal funding distribution.
