The investigation gained momentum following the death of US border patrol agent David Maland during a January shootout in Coventry, Vermont.
LaSota's blog, published under the pseudonym Ziz, delves into theories suggesting that each hemisphere of the brain possesses distinct values and genders that may be in conflict, even to the point of desiring to harm one another. These ideas attracted followers who identify as "Zizians," forming a group that has now caught the attention of law enforcement. The group has been implicated in multiple homicides across Vermont, Pennsylvania, and California.
Despite numerous attempts by the Associated Press to reach out, LaSota has remained unresponsive. Her attorney, Daniel McGarrigle, has also refrained from commenting on her connection to any deaths. The recent arrests come amid an ongoing cross-country investigation that intensified after Maland's fatal encounter with law enforcement.
The charges against LaSota and Zajko include trespassing, obstructing and hindering, and possession of a handgun in a vehicle. Both individuals are scheduled for a bail hearing at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Allegany District Court. LaSota, a transgender woman who uses she/her pronouns, has been known to voice opposition against perceived adversaries, including rationalist groups focused on understanding cognition through reason.
