In a significant move to streamline government operations, the White House has introduced the "Doge" program, led by tech magnate Elon Musk. Announced on Thursday, the initiative aims to significantly reduce the size of the federal workforce as part of a broader effort to cut governmental costs. The program has already sparked controversy for its aggressive approach, which includes eliminating certain agencies and inadvertently disrupting critical functions like Ebola prevention.
The "Doge" program has been tasked with shrinking and, in some cases, entirely eliminating federal agencies to create a more efficient government structure. President Donald Trump emphasized the necessity of this initiative, underscoring its importance for decreasing governmental size.

Despite its ambitious objectives, the program has faced criticism for its handling of sensitive issues. An example of this occurred when it "accidentally" cancelled an Ebola-prevention effort. Elon Musk acknowledged these imperfections but assured the public that such errors were rectified promptly.

Key components of the program include requiring agencies to establish a centralized system for recording and justifying payments. This measure aims to enhance transparency by potentially making payments public. Moreover, Musk's team will oversee the program to ensure compliance and accountability.
In addition to these measures, the General Services Administration has been given a 60-day deadline to devise a strategy to offload government real estate deemed unnecessary. Furthermore, an immediate 30-day freeze has been placed on all government-issued credit cards, with exceptions only for disaster relief or essential services.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is among the agencies significantly impacted by this initiative, with plans to reduce its workforce by up to 65%. Additionally, the program has already resulted in the termination of thousands of probationary employees who lacked civil service protections.
