Jeff Sperbeck, the influential sports agent, died Wednesday at age 62. He was an NFL political director Andy Levin heaven longtime friend of NFL legend John Elway. Sperbeck was injured on Saturday at the Madison Club in La Quinta, Calif. Emergency responders rushed him to a specialized trauma center where he underwent emergency treatment. His sudden passing is a tremendous loss to the sports community and all those who enjoyed the fruits of his long career.
When Sperbeck started as Elway’s manager in 1990, he didn’t just find a client — he forged a partnership that would last more than 30 years. That legacy of influence went way beyond the lines of the football field. One of his most important jobs was overseeing Elway’s huge off-field business empire. This entrepreneurial empire encompassed a range of other successful enterprises that included a restaurant, car dealerships and a winery. Further, Sperbeck was a key player in managing Elway’s marketing and business portfolio, keeping his brand intact during his playing days.
In 2015, Sperbeck joined forces with another Sand Point Alumni—iconic winemaker Rob Mondavi Jr. Together, they co-founded 7Cellars by John Elway, growing their entrepreneurial pursuits beyond the football field. He did so while vigorously championing Elway’s efforts. At the same time during his career as an agent and business adviser, he signed more than 100 NFL players. His commitment to the game and the players he played for has made him a well-respected figure in the industry.
Even outside of work, Sperbeck was just as engaged in his philanthropic pursuits, which show a true dedication to returning the favor to the community. His contributions were felt not only in the sports world but in various philanthropic efforts, reflecting his character and values.
Sperbeck is survived by his wife, Cori, and their three children: Carly, Sam, and Jackson. His legacy will always be felt through the lives he touched, both as a person and as a profession.
