Critics have already begun emerging, questioning just how effective these measures truly are at protecting young users. They are especially worried about the dangers of coming across harmful content and being groomed.
From the very beginning, Roblox has introduced numerous features aimed specifically at improving user safety. Parents can limit their kids’ daily playtime and track their activities on the app. In addition, the platform recently prohibited direct messaging and “hangout experiences” for users younger than 13, features in which player chats often occur. Roblox has a draconian policy against users sharing any images with one another. According to some people’s accounts, others have found loopholes to avoid this rule.
The platform’s in-depth safety features have become widely lauded and awarded. These tools help safeguard its huge network of tens of millions of users for the benefit of all those people. Raina says reports have surfaced about some users spending 14 hours per day on the platform.
"We watch for bullying, we watch for harassment, we filter all of those kinds of things, and I would say behind the scenes, the analysis goes on all the way to, if necessary, reaching out to law enforcement," said Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki.
While Roblox has made these promises, critics say that the platform has failed to take adequate action against particular complaints. The platform has drawn criticism after failing to act on multiple reports of grooming. It has failed to effectively filter out sexual content. Many parents and child development experts have begun to wonder whether the existing safety features are enough, especially considering the platform’s primary audience.
"This is unacceptable for a platform that's advertised towards young children. It seems like the company isn't taking any responsibility and clearly their filters are not working," stated Sally, a concerned parent.

"I would say on the whole the Roblox experience has been a very positive one with 'Adopt Me' being a very kind and safe place for her to have fun with her friends," shared Kathryn Foley, a parent.
The debate has moved past parents, and that’s not a good thing. Now, experts are warning about the broader consequences of allowing children unfettered access to open online platforms. The dialogue underscores the complex balance between providing a secure digital playground and recognizing the inherent risks of internet use.
"There is a danger in thinking the internet is a crèche," observed Phil, an expert on digital safety.
Roblox’s commitment to keeping our platform a safe and welcoming environment is unwavering. Now, with a fresh set of challenges, it is under constant attack from all sides—both proponents and opponents. The company is deeply committed to safety. Yet TikTok has remained indefatigably one step ahead, despite repeatedly updating and improving its figures in disguise from children’s protection efforts.
"Any bad – even one bad incident – is one too many," emphasized Baszucki.
