In a recent announcement on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump declared his intention to revoke Secret Service details for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden. The decision follows Trump's statement that he would review Hunter Biden's security situation later in the day. Trump noted that he had not been previously aware of the matter but plans to remove Ashley Biden, who is currently assigned 13 agents, from the protection list.
The news comes as Trump also revoked security details for former high-ranking officials Mike Pompeo, Brian Hook, and John Bolton. These security measures were believed to be provided by the State Department under the Biden administration due to ongoing threats from Iran. Each of these former officials was granted protection to ensure their safety amidst these threats.
Trump expressed his views on the matter through a post on Truth Social, stating:
"Hunter Biden has had Secret Service protection for an extended period of time, all paid for by the United States Taxpayer," – Donald Trump
He also addressed the immediate changes he intends to implement regarding Secret Service protections:
"Please be advised that, effective immediately, Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden who has 13 agents will be taken off the list," – Donald Trump
According to federal law, former presidents and their spouses are entitled to lifelong Secret Service protection. However, the protection afforded to the immediate families of former presidents over the age of 16 concludes when they leave office. This recent decision by Trump underscores his stance on the allocation of protective resources and taxpayer-funded security details.
Additionally, Trump mentioned his plan to further examine the specifics regarding Hunter Biden's security detail:
"Well, we have done that with many. I would say if there are 18 with Hunter Biden, that will be something I’ll look at this afternoon," – Donald Trump
