Trump Strengthens Ties with UAE Through Major AI Campus Initiative

Donald Trump recently visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of a broader trip to the Middle East, where he announced a significant partnership focused on artificial intelligence (AI). This project lays the groundwork for an extensive AI data campus. Once constructed, it will become the largest facility of its kind outside the United States.

When complete, the new campus will cover an area equal to 10 square miles. It is still intended to have a capacity of 5 gigawatt. The first phase of this bold project starts with the buildout of a 1-gigawatt mega AI data center. This is a major step forward for collaborative AI research and development between the U.S. and the UAE.

At the 2020 announcement, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan accompanied Trump, illustrating the significance of this partnership. The partnership will support the region’s advancement as a center for innovation and sustainable development practices.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik hailed the agreement. Corker’s talking points included a robust set of security assurances against any diversion of U.S. technology. Cooper told us that there are many U.S. companies participating in the project, but their names are not yet public. This partnership will have real, meaningful effects for both countries.

When Trump came for his visit, he spent his time with world leaders. He announced a number of new agreements, underscoring the strategic importance of deepening our relationship with the UAE. The ultimate goal of this partnership is to jumpstart each country’s AI capabilities, while deepening economic ties between the two nations.

“The UAE is positioned as a hub for cutting-edge research and sustainable development.” – Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan
