A shooting during a house party in Hickory, North Carolina, resulted in one fatality and eleven injuries early Sunday morning. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred at approximately 12:45 AM, sending shockwaves through a normally quiet neighborhood.
At least 100 people came to the shindig. Yet it quickly turned into calamity, as soon as one or more shooters started shooting. Witnesses said they heard police fire at least 80 rounds, leading to swift activation of most surrounding law enforcement agencies. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, joined by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and Hickory Police Department. Jointly, they are publicly pursuing an aggressive investigation of the incident.
Major Aaron Turk of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said the street where the shooting took place is normally quiet. Jonathan’s death has shocked the local community. The unexpected onset of violence shocked many Civic Center residents, plunging them into fear for their safety and their home community.
Among the injured, one victim is still in critical condition and ten others were hospitalized with life threatening injuries.
