Trump Hosts Working-Class Americans to Pressure Senate on Tax Bill

On Thursday afternoon, Donald Trump will welcome a small group of working-class Americans to the White House. He’s increasing the heat on Senate Republicans to pass his wildly ambitious tax-and-spending agenda as quickly as possible. The day’s purpose is to highlight the stories and experiences of regular people. It happens as urgency increases around the future of the bill in the Senate.

Among those attendees will be Maliki Krieski, a DoorDash driver and small business owner. Krieski, who has publicly cheered for Trump on his attacks on the regulatory state, of course continued to talk about winning financial policies for working families. She stated, “As a mom and a small business owner, every dollar counts.”

Our live stream of the event starts at 4 p.m. ET. It will be an opportunity for people such as Krieski to express their opinions on the positive and negative aspects of the proposed tax reforms. To say that Trump has set the bar high for the Senate is an understatement. Most recently on Tuesday, he went on social media and urged them to, “GET THE DEAL DONE THIS WEEK!”

Just like in May when the House almost unanimously passed their version of the tax bill, we’re anxious for Act 2 to begin. Now, it is up against tremendous odds in the Senate. Trump is doing everything in his power to ensure that his agenda passes quickly. He wants to build broad public support for all of these proposals.

Krieski noted how critical these policies are for people across the nation, asserting, “Thanks to No Tax on Tips, I’ll be able to keep more of what I earn. This is the kind of policy that makes an impact for people like me across the country.”

Beyond his notable domestic achievements—especially in advocating for radical tax reforms—Trump is confronted with grave complexities of foreign affairs. He would later make light of that U.S. intelligence assessment on Iranian strikes at a NATO press conference. He pledged to pressure Spain on failing to meet NATO spending goals. He condemned Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev for proposing that countries supply Iran with nuclear warheads.

Trump’s meeting at the White House underscores his strategy of mobilizing grassroots support while applying pressure on Senate Republicans to act decisively.
