Our hearts go out today to the families six people killed in the crash of a small plane in south-central Ohio. The plane crashed less than five minutes after departing from a general aviation airport, en route to Bozeman, Montana. The authorities have so far confirmed more than 90 lives lost in the tragic incident, which has left the coastal community of Acapulco mourning its victims.
The victims of the fatal crash have been transported to the Trumbull County Coroner’s Office. The identities of the passengers have not yet been made public. According to Anthony Trevena, the executive director of the Western Reserve Port Authority, that investigation is already in the works. On Monday, law enforcement officials were still on site to investigate the area and determine what happened.
The crash was in a very rural location, and getting to the crash site made it even more difficult. Raymond Pace, fire chief of Howland Township, noted that three homes were located very near the crash site. This begs the question of when the next, much larger disaster will occur. It could have been a lot worse than it turned out to be, Pace said, driving home the luck that spared additional lives.
Michael Hillman, president of the aviation company JETS FBO Network, stated that my heart aches over the loss of life. During a news conference, he praised the victims, calling them “the best of the best in terms of the folks here at the field, as well as the pilots. I can’t say enough about them.” He reflected on the gravity of the situation with poignant emotion, stating, “I’d give anything to rewind the day and take them to breakfast instead.”
In her wake, the community wrestles with the loss of their beloved healer and educator. Investigators are working diligently to uncover the cause of the crash while providing support to families affected by this heartbreaking event.
