As actor Jeff Daniels recently lamented on the CNN town hall circuit, the Trump supporters. He pointedly focused on the unfair impact that they could face due to the effects of Trump’s policies. Daniels very intentionally Tweeted his sarcasm, hoping to leave Trump supporters swimming in red ink. He is convinced these losses are a direct result of the former president’s policies and actions while in office.
Daniels explained why he thought Trump’s initial slate of tariffs, when all was said and done, would drive some of Trump’s supporters away. Reflecting on the incredible change that has occurred since Trump re-assumed office in January. The pace of these changes has surprised him.
The actor did not hold back in his critique of Trump, labeling him as “everything that’s wrong with not just America but with being a human being.” He recently called Trump a “snake-oil salesman.” Overall, that implies that the advancements promised during his presidency have not actually produced tangible positive outcomes for the American people.
“I hope you’re losing tons of money, those of you who thought this would be OK,” Daniels stated, challenging Trump supporters to reflect on the implications of their choices. He continually pressed on how voters would be able to justify their cost of living under the Trump administration. In particular, he cited the grocery inflation and rise in vehicle prices.
Now hold on, that grocery money is how much? $180 more right now? I can’t purchase that car that we absolutely need to have unless I pay an additional $8,000. What? Who do I blame for that? Who do I see about that? One person, he emphasized, directing blame at Trump.
Daniels lamented the broader societal implications of Trump’s presidency, stating, “We’ve lost decency, we’ve lost civility, we’ve lost respect for the rule of law – lost it.” His comments illustrate a heightened concern among a segment of Americans about the loss of longstanding social norms and values.
Daniels is most well known for his work in iconic films such as Something Wild, The Squid and the Whale, and Dum and Dumber. In recent years, he’s worked on equally thrilling projects such as the television series American Rust and A Man in Full. In his upcoming role, he will portray Ronald Reagan opposite Jared Harris, who plays Mikhail Gorbachev, in a production centered on the 1986 Reykjavik Summit.
