Richard Tillman Arrested Following Early Morning Crash into San Jose Post Office

Richard Tillman, the brother of former Arizona Cardinals safety and American hero Pat Tillman, early Sunday morning, was arrested. After some quick police work, authorities arrested the man as a suspect in the shooting that happened just before 3 a.m.

The crash caused significant damage to the post office, which is located in a strip mall south of downtown San Jose. After the crash, the structure was engulfed in flames, leading first responders to jump into action. Some 50 firefighters battled the blaze for more than an hour and a half before putting the fire under control. Photos released by the fire department showed a burned-out vehicle within the severely damaged building.

Richard Tillman was arrested shortly after the shooting and is still being held without bail. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office inmate locator shows him as currently being in the agency’s custody.

Not as well known is his younger brother Pat Tillman, a star safety at Arizona State University and then with the Arizona Cardinals. In response to the September 11 attacks, he decided to change his life by serving in Iraq. He walked away from a potential million dollar NFL contract to serve this country and eventually gave his life in service to Afghanistan. Pat Tillman, a San Jose native, is perhaps still the best-known local symbol of sacrifice and dedication.

Until the situation of their crash and Tillman’s role in it is investigated. As law enforcement learns more about this incident, the FBI will provide further updates.
