Dr. Vonda Wright, a 58-year-old orthopedic surgeon. She went on to found Precision Longevity and is now on a mission to help women redefine what aging looks like. Her sports medicine career runs decades deep, and now, she’s a thought leader working to help women enjoy their later years. Her mission is to change that — to get them all living their best lives, without pain and restrictions. As a practicing clinician, Dr. Wright has always prioritized longevity in her work. We all want to not only add years to our life, but life to our years as well.
To ensure that she makes time for her physical and mental health, in whatever her day brings, Dr. Wright has adopted a few daily practices. She reminds us just how critical physical activity can be. For her, it’s committing to walk 45 minutes three to four times a week. She’s been very committed to her workouts. To further bolster her training, she prioritizes her nutrition, targeting 130 grams of protein a day—roughly one gram per pound of body weight—to help build muscle and preserve strength.
Dr. Wright’s approach to personal health goes further than just physical activity and nutrition. Her sleep practice is intentional. She adheres to a strict schedule, going to bed by 9:30 p.m. and rising early at 5:00 a.m. This rigorous daily regimen is just one facet of Pamela’s overall mission to “change the way we age in this country.”
On the subject of community, she is a firm believer that community support is an important key for a happy health and longevity. Dr. Wright surrounds herself with five individuals who share her commitment to wellness, creating an environment that fosters motivation and accountability. This shift towards creating nurturing, inclusive communities is at the heart of her approach.
Dr. Wright is an enthusiastic and hands-on personal steward of her health. She’s most focused on the impact of crime, climate and housing on her quality of life. She points out, “I’m able to hear and feel a difference physically in my body. I can feel inflamed. I can tell when I’m on sugar because I get this brain fog.” Her background gives her the unique outlook and passion to advocate for these healthier choices. She’s especially interested in women, who have largely been excluded from the discussions surrounding aging and longevity.
Dr. Wright powerfully calls out the lack of women’s health stories in the dominant narratives of health. What I know is that, as we age, we are not only living longer, but at the same time experiencing more pain. Until now, the majority of conversations around longevity in this country have centered around men and on their scientific data,” she says. Her long-standing commitment to closing these gaps drives her work at Precision Longevity.
She logs 25,000 steps a day, runs several miles, lifts twice her weight and skips rope. These practices have enlivened her body. Dr. Wright advocates for a balance and well-rounded approach to fitness by encouraging all types of exercises. He thinks this approach should change as people grow older.
Beyond her integrative approaches to physical health, Dr. Wright has had wisdom and knowledge in making decisions about hormone replacement therapy. She’s decided to replace estrogen as one key part of her overall strategy for keeping her brain healthy and her body thriving.
