During his short visit on May 21, 2025 Jensen Huang, co-founder and CEO of Nvidia Corp. He wanted to celebrate Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)’s vital role in creating all-ahead-on-TSMC’s new AI chip platform, codenamed “Rubin.” At the news conference, Huang underscored the close collaboration with Nvidia’s foundry partner TSMC. He went on to speak about 6 major advancements in the semiconductor field.
Huang’s visit was partly aimed to improve relations with TSMC, which is now working on six new products for Nvidia. These products have a completely new custom central processing unit (CPU), but a very flexible general processing unit (GPU). Both are extremely important for pushing the future of Nvidia’s technology. Huang reiterated how vital these collaborations are in pushing the company’s innovation effort forward.
In response to inquiries about the U.S. government’s interest in acquiring a stake in TSMC as part of the CHIPS Act initiative, Huang acknowledged the potential benefits. He remarked on TSMC’s exceptional reputation, stating, “Well, first of all, I think TSMC is one of the greatest companies in the history of humanity, and anybody who wants to buy TSMC stock is a very smart person.”
As Huang disclosed, Nvidia is working hand-in-glove with the local government. They are fighting plans to build a new HQ dubbed “NVIDIA Constellation” on an island off Taiwan’s coast. This office will help Nvidia’s burgeoning talent pool in the area, contributing to the advanced technology workforce that the region is cultivating. Given Taiwan’s strained supply chains, this expansion is more crucial now than ever before.
“We have many, many employees here in Taiwan, and we’re growing here in Taiwan because our supply chain is so busy here,” Huang noted. He pointed to the critical demand for talented young engineers to help advance the firm’s many active projects. We’re working together with the chip companies, the system vendors and Taiwan-based manufacturers,” he continued. We have some amazing advocates hustling for us, and we’re going to need hundreds of engineers to work alongside them.
Huang’s comments are seen in the context of the continued rollout of the CHIPS Act. This significant piece of legislation, passed in 2022 with overwhelming bipartisan support, represented a new era in the Joe Biden administration. This legislation is an attempt to bolster U.S. leadership in semiconductor manufacturing. It provides federal grants and federal loans to companies like Micron, TSMC, and Samsung, allowing them to make massive new investments in their production capacity.
As part of the CHIPS Act, TSMC is in the process of constructing three advanced chip fabrication plants in Arizona. At the same time, Huang’s trip underscores Nvidia’s emphatic commitment to its joint ventures in Taiwan and its dreams for future expansion of the booming semiconductor industry.
