Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, a rising star on the Baltimore comedy circuit, was murdered in northern Mississippi on August 20th. The tragedy has reverberated throughout the comedy world. Yet, at the time, Carroll was hailed as one of the city’s greatest talents. He died when he was 52 years old.
Carroll was shot during an event that in the wake of Carroll’s shooting has drawn heightened scrutiny from local organizers and, now, federal investigators. After the attack, he underwent emergency treatment at a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, but died from his injuries. According to the Southhaven police department, Carroll’s killing was an ‘isolated’ incident. In all, they arrested a 17-year-old, charging him with second-degree murder, though the circumstances of this unfortunate incident still remain fairly murky.
Famous for his warmth and humor, Carroll was an inspiration to all who knew him. Fellow comedian Mo’Nique took to Instagram to express her sorrow and fond memories of Carroll, calling him a true “brother” on the comedic stage. In her tribute, she expressed gratitude for his support during her early career and reflected on the joy of their last moments together.

According to police, they are still actively investigating the shooter. They are continuing to collect information surrounding the incident.
