In a heartbreaking recent occurrence in Porepunkah, Victoria, two police officers were tragically killed in the line of duty. Make this tragic day August 26, 2025. The shooting occurred around 10:30 am when a group of ten police staff attempted to execute a search warrant at a rural property. Instead, to their surprise, as soon as they arrived on scene, they were fired upon – setting off a tumultuous and gruesome series of events.
One other officer was seriously injured and had to have surgery in a local hospital. Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator is still at large, leading Victoria Police on a massive manhunt for the individual. They’re calling the incident an “active incident.” All specialist resources across Scotland are now available and deployed into the area to locate this dangerous suspect.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said the news of the deaths was confirmation of a tragedy. He said the two remaining officers on scene were in good spirits. He underlined the seriousness of this moment, reiterating his sadness at the loss of life.
“They were fired upon. The two deceased officers are still at the scene. A third officer was seriously injured and is currently in surgery in hospital. We have deployed all specialist resources into the area to arrest the person responsible,” – Mike Bush.
As of writing, the manhunt to find the alleged shooter continued. As if the large and aggressive police presence was not enough, the cops added a helicopter circling overhead. Officers in military camouflage gear swiftly cordoned off the shooting scene. Almost two dozen police cars came in what was clearly an overwhelming show of force to intimidate.

Nevertheless, it continued to provide catering for the police force present to oversee the protest. Within days of the attack, community support has come in from many different sectors, showing that the community stands together during this tragic moment.
Alpine Shire Mayor Sarah Nicholas made a passionate video statement, extending her deepest condolences to the families impacted by such a tragic crash. Her message clearly resonated with the crowd. Like all in our community, they are dealing with the shock and sadness associated with losing two of their most dedicated public servants.

First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the two police officers tragically killed in Porepunkah. Our thoughts, love, and unwavering support are with you during this incredibly painful time,” – Sarah Nicholas.
Local Member of Parliament Tim McCurdy said he was broken-hearted after the shocking news. He described the event as “heartbreaking” and denounced it as a “senseless” act of violence toward those who protect and defend their community.
“It’s tragic that two police officers have been killed, absolutely heartbreaking that this senseless act has taken place. I just feel for the families of those two police officers and the police officer who is in hospital at the moment,” – Tim McCurdy.
Victoria Police Legacy board members expressed their deepest sympathy to the families of fallen officers. They were particularly adamant about their continued commitment to uplifting those impacted by this tragedy.
