Erika Kirk is Turning Point USA’s new chief executive officer. This powerful rightwing nonprofit was co-founded by her late husband, conservative provocateur and flame-thrower, Charlie Kirk in 2012. This appointment follows only days after the tragic shooting of pro-life activist Charlie Kirk point blank at an event last week. His sudden passing leaves an enormous hole, both in the organization and the larger conservative movement.
Charlie Kirk has built Turning Point USA into one of the nation’s most powerful conservative organizations. He inspired millions of young Americans to come out in support of former President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. During his time in office, he labored in every way possible to advance a vision rooted in faith that rewarded our children and grandchildren. Erika Kirk stated that her husband had previously expressed his desire for her to lead the organization in the event of his passing.
Married in May of 2021, Arizona natives Erika and Charlie Kirk not only shared a commitment to conservative values but strong community engagement as well. In his final public statements, Charlie emphasized the urgency of their mission, famously declaring, “We have a country to save.” This sentiment was one that found great purchase among the national organization and its grassroots supporters.
In honor of his impressive work, Donald Trump has announced that he intends to award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Friends and supporters joined in a powerful, poignant Sunday night vigil in Washington, D.C., to honor his memory. Against a backdrop of mourning, the announcement takes on new significance. Sadly, one of the most important things missing at that vigil was President Trump himself.
A public memorial service is scheduled for Sept. 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. Almost every major political luminary, from Trump to JD Vance to Marco Rubio, will undoubtedly make the pilgrimage and pay their respects. We hope this service to celebrate Charlie Kirk’s tremendous legacy and his missionary work in building the conservative movement, especially on college campuses.
Erika Kirk though, as she begins her tenure as President and Chair of the Board at Turning Point USA. She remains fiercely committed to continuing her husband’s mission, and with the same fire and intent. She wants to continue the fight for the values Charlie stood for and build a legacy that equips and inspires future leaders for generations to come.
