The crisis can be traced back to the board management of Sark Electricity Limited (SEL), the only commercial electricity supplier on the island. David’s legacy Gordon-brown family has run SEL for decades. Things got heated when he considered severing their power supply altogether. Electricity generation on Sark has jumped by 400% over a matter of months. The old regulator cap from 2018 was 66p per kWh—far cry from current market values. This state of affairs has fueled a growing tide of public outrage, including residents’ like Tony Le Lievre’s, at this misuse.
