Jaguar Land Rover, meanwhile, just extended the closure of its UK factories for at least a further week. This decision comes on the heels of the cyber attack that recently happened at the end of August. Tata Motors, its parent company, has stopped production at its facilities in Solihull, Halewood, and Wolverhampton. Unfortunately, this shutdown has seriously impaired their ability to manufacture up to 1,000 vehicles per day.
The cyber attack that first became public on September 1 has caused major production and operational impacts for the auto giant. In the wake of the accident, workers returned home immediately. Staff mustn’t go back under the tent until at least Monday. This longer than normal closure will mean ceding two full weeks worth of production to the rest of the world. Service can’t return until then either.
The impact of the cyber attack goes beyond just production. Traditionally, dealerships have done very well for themselves during this pinched time of year. They’re presently having a tough time moving iron. Garages that were servicing Jaguar Land Rover vehicles would run into major issues sourcing the parts they needed. This mistake added confusion and complexity for customers and service providers alike.
The automotive giant has confirmed that some sensitive data has been affected due to the breach. It doesn’t say who in particular—that can be customers, suppliers, or the corporation itself. By Wednesday, Jaguar Land Rover confirmed that data could have been stolen or accessed by unauthorized third parties.
“As a result of our ongoing investigation, we now believe that some data has been affected, and we are informing the relevant regulators. Our forensic investigation continues at pace, and we will contact anyone as appropriate if we find that their data has been impacted.” – Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)
This Friday local MPs will be given a special briefing from Jaguar Land Rover on an online call. That’s an encouraging signal that all levels of government are actively watching the landscape. The company has been putting all of its efforts into figuring out the scope of the breach and the operational impact it’s caused.
Jaguar Land Rover, for its part, is committed to working through the disruption brought on by the cyber attack. Simultaneously, the company is focused on protecting its data and restoring business operations in a timely manner.
