Helicopter Crash at Southern California Beach Injures Eight

A military helicopter crashed into a row of palm trees at a crowded Southern California beach Saturday. This tragic incident led to injuries to eight people. The helicopter flew high over Huntington Beach. Then suddenly, on what looked like a fairly good flight path, it went haywire, turned turtle and began to crash.

Eyewitnesses described a rapid descent before the plane went down into the palm trees, which it crashed into that ring the beach area. The Huntington Beach fire department was quickly on the scene, giving first aid to those seriously hurt in the collision. Rescue crews successfully freed the two occupants from the crumpled remains of the helicopter. In all, five others were transported to local hospitals for treatment. In addition, three people on the street were seriously injured in connection to the crash.

The helicopter was apparently put on lease through a fundraising event called “Cars N Copters.” Little did they know that this fun and informative event was to occur the very next day! The purpose of the event is for the distinct collection of classic cars and helicopters to raise money for charity – specifically local charitable organizations.

At the time of publication, crash cause was still under investigation, with officials stating no immediate details were available. Michael Heiman, from Getty Images, caught an amazing shot of the destruction. With the helicopter’s shattered rotor blades emblazoned across her otherwise clear image, the moment illustrates just how horrific this crash was.
