ABC News is not renewing the contract of still veteran journalist Terry Moran. This decision comes in the wake of his infamous social media platform X tirade against former Trump administration officials. Moran’s statements regarding Stephen Miller and President Donald Trump were quickly condemned by a number of prominent politicians. Prompted by this public outcry, the administration reversed its decision.
On the weekend, Moran published a post that described Stephen Miller as “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred,” suggesting that hatred served as Miller’s “spiritual nourishment.” On that same post, he called Donald Trump a “world-class hater.” The comments immediately drew backlash, especially from lawmakers on the Trump administration’s behalf.
That post resulted in immediate backlash against Moran. In response, an ABC News representative insisted that they have high standards for professionalism and objectivity for the network’s journalists. By that measure, advocates of public transit raised their eyebrows at Moran’s comments, calling them “shameful.”
“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post – which was a clear violation of ABC News policies – we have made the decision to not renew,” – ABC News spokesperson.
Moran’s incendiary comments on social media certainly did not go unnoticed by political figures. Vice President JD Vance attacked the social media post, calling it “dripping with hatred.” Lastly, he asked viewers to remember Moran’s comments on context whenever they are watching news coverage about, or related to, the Trump administration.
After the backlash ABC News verified that the network had indeed suspended Moran over the weekend. During the interview, the network doubled down on its dedication to upholding only the highest standards of fairness and professionalism in journalism.
“At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism,” – ABC News spokesperson.
The flap drew enough attention that Moran removed his original post. The decision to cut ties with him underscores ABC News’s commitment to adhering to its established guidelines for reporting and commentary.
