Amy Coney Barrett Faces Backlash from Right Wing Over Recent Decisions

Amy Coney Barrett
, a pivotal figure in the Supreme Court’s right-wing majority, faces harsh criticism from conservative circles following several contentious decisions. Appointed to the Supreme Court in October 2020, Barrett helped solidify a 6-3 conservative majority on the court. Despite her conservative credentials, recent rulings have sparked ire from some right-wing commentators, who accuse her of straying from their expectations.

Barrett's voting record in 2023 aligns closely with staunch conservatives Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, with whom she sided over 80% of the time. However, her vote to uphold a US district judge’s ruling to unfreeze nearly $2 billion for foreign aid contradicted former President Donald Trump's stance. This decision, among others, has drawn criticism from conservative figures who expected her unwavering support for traditional constitutionalist views.

Her decision drew particularly sharp rebuke from right-wing influencer Mike Cernovich, who stated:

“She is evil, chosen solely because she checked identity politics boxes. Another DEI hire. It always ends badly” – Mike Cernovich

Other notable right-wing voices echoed Cernovich's sentiments. Fox News host Mark Levin criticized Barrett for allegedly adopting a power-driven mindset:

“The power has gone to her head. It happens with frightening regularity the last half century” – Mark Levin

In addition to these criticisms, Laura Loomer labeled Barrett as a "DEI appointee," while Mike Davis disparagingly referred to her as:

“She’s a rattled law professor with her head up her ass” – Mike Davis

Barrett’s rulings also included joining a dissent against a conservative-led decision that weakened environmental regulations regarding raw sewage discharge. Furthermore, she denied Trump's request to delay sentencing in his New York hush-money case, further fueling discontent among some conservative supporters.

Barrett's personal life has also been thrust into the spotlight. She recently posted a picture of her family, which includes two adopted Black children. This action sparked debates about identity politics and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.
