Andrew Tate, the misogynistic internet meme lord, former kickboxer, and self-styled influencer of toxic masculinity, is currently under criminal investigation in several countries. These are Romania and the United Kingdom. No one’s even talking about the authorities examining these egregious allegations, from human trafficking to manipulated personal injury claims. The investigations still have many questions to answer, including the case for conduct unbecoming and thinking about the effect on the women so deeply affected.
Currently, in their home country of Romania, Tate and his brother Tristan are being accused by Romanian authorities of human trafficking, trafficking of minors, and money laundering. The Romanian authorities initiated these probes only after hundreds of women reported the crimes. All of these courageous women who fought to come forward have accused the brothers of abusive behavior.
Back in 2019, three women made official complaints against Tate to Hertfordshire police about their interactions with him. Yet, despite the strong evidence of abuse, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) chose not to pursue criminal charges against Tate at the time. This decision has been recently challenged based on new allegations and investigations continuing to this day.
Currently, four women have filed lawsuits against Andrew Tate, claiming they suffered long-term mental health issues as a direct result of their interactions with him. These civil lawsuits claim personal injuries related to events that allegedly took place between 2012 and 2015. Two women who are now plaintiffs in the lawsuits worked in Tate’s webcam business in 2015. This calls into question the environment portrayed, in which the alleged abuses took place.
Among the most egregious allegations include rape, coercive control, and assault and battery. Back in 2013, one woman told a very scary story. After she made clear her hesitance for having penetrative sex, Tate reportedly raped her at his residence after a kickboxing training session.
Yet a third woman’s account from an anonymous newspaper whistleblower shows even more disturbing allegations. She alleges that Tate continued to engage in sexual intercourse with her. This was the case even after he had strangled her unconscious. This young woman says she had come to know Tate at the Yates’ nightclub in Luton, and this was where their dating was initiated.
In light of these grave allegations, the court has scheduled a preliminary hearing on the merits for the civil action against Tate. So, save the date for April 14! Future civil proceedings will likely serve as a forum for confronting conduct that may inform ongoing criminal investigations into his conduct in multiple jurisdictions.
Tate has repeatedly denied all allegations, calling them “a pack of lies,” and “gross fabrications.” His proclamations of innocence and claims of a smear campaign are in sharp contradiction to the sworn testimonies of 75 women who have stepped forward with claims.
“I’m just debating whether to rape you or not.” – Andrew Tate
As these investigations continue to unfold, legal authorities and the public will be watching closely to see what comes next for Andrew Tate. These accusations, if true, have far ranging implications far exceeding the individual accusation. They seek to raise issues of accountability and victim supports presented by the ongoing surge of abuse scandals.
