Anna Sorokin, the famed convicted con artist known as Anna Delvey, is in the news again. This time, she’s creating a stir in New York City. This controversy is all about this photoshoot with three bunnies. Sadly, those a-ha moments were followed in short order by the discovery of those rabbits abandoned in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
The incident drew condemnation on social media, where many people called Sorokin an animal abuser. Sorokin later claimed in response to the backlash that she was horrified to learn the rabbits had been tossed out. She swiftly denied any responsibility for their abandonment, stating, “I do not eat meat, and I had no involvement in the acquisition, transport, or return of these animals. I would never condone these actions.”
Sorokin rose to infamy for defrauding high society in Manhattan with her fictitious German trust fund. In 2019, she was found guilty on several counts of larceny and theft. After spending nearly four years in jail and an additional 18 months detained for overstaying her visa, she was released with restrictions that included refraining from posting on social media.
The fashion spread with Sorokin, by Jonathan Leder, focusing on Sorokin posing with rabbits. This raised alarms almost immediately with animal rights advocates and concerned citizens. Highway advocates across the country quickly flooded social media with their condemnation of such a fate. Sorokin answered the public outcry by providing her support in locating new shelters for the rabbits. She later said that she felt a lot of regret about her personal connection to the event.
I was really appalled, ashamed, embarrassed,” she said businesses be linked to it.
The individual who produced the shoot weighed in on the fallout on Instagram in a now-deleted post. They opened up about how overwhelmed they were. The children soon came to the understanding that they’d be responsible for the rabbits without any experience or tools. When I figured out the rabbits were being given up to me, I freaked out. At 19, I didn’t have experience taking care of animals or housing accommodations that would allow pets. Hesitant, frightened, and confused about the resources I had at my disposal, I opted to make the worst choice imaginable.
This incident has reignited discussions surrounding Sorokin’s past and her unconventional rise to fame, particularly through the Netflix series “Inventing Anna,” which chronicles her life and crimes.
While the story unfolds, Sorokin’s shining new public image is still being questioned. Her leadership around the issue of the abandoned rabbits will inform the public’s perception of her for years to come. Now she’s getting used to life outside prison walls.
