SpaceX successfully completed the splashdown of its spacecraft off the coast of Florida, marking the safe return of astronauts Nick Hague, Aleksandr Gorbunov, Butch Wilmore, and Suni Williams. The recovery team, already on site, swiftly began preparing the floating capsule for hoisting onto the recovery ship as curious dolphins swam around it. The astronauts are expected to exit the spacecraft shortly, following a well-coordinated recovery operation.
The spacecraft, after safely landing in the ocean, was lifted out of the water by the diligent efforts of the recovery team. Kate Tice from SpaceX noted that the astronauts would soon exit the spacecraft. The astronauts will then walk a short distance to receive medical checks on board the recovery ship.
Nasa astronaut Nick Hague has already emerged from the spacecraft and is being wheeled to a medical examination. Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov also appeared from the spacecraft, smiling and waving at the team. Both astronauts received a warm welcome back to Earth.
“And splashdown. Crew-9 back on Earth. Nick, Aleksandr, Butch and Suni, on behalf of SpaceX, welcome home,” a voice from mission control announced.
As the recovery team prepared the rigging on the newly landed capsule, there was a sense of accomplishment in the air. The spacecraft was successfully lifted onto the recovery ship, heralding the end of this mission.
Nick Hague expressed his exhilaration upon returning, sharing his excitement with a touch of humor.
“What a ride. I see a capsule full of grins, ear to ear,” said Nicholas Hague.
