British Teacher Dies After Falling Ill During Hair Transplant in Istanbul

Martyn Latchman, a 38-year-old British national from Milton Keynes, became seriously ill after receiving treatment at a hair transplant clinic in Istanbul, Turkey. Sadly, that’s where he met his end. Last summer, Latchman was able to make it back—this time with a successful hair transplant procedure completed at Dr. Cinik’s clinic. On his second treatment visit, that’s when the incident happened.

Latchman has a passion for education. Until December of last year, Ross was the assistant headteacher and head of computer science at Goldington Academy in Bedford, UK. Until he threw away his teaching career and jumped ship to become an education defence contractor. Friends and family are grieving the sudden passing of Latchman—the 16-year veteran educator’s long-time career in teaching.

The hair restoration journey started in Dr. Cinik’s clinic, nestled in the Besikitas neighborhood of Istanbul. Reports state that Latchman became seriously ill in the weeks leading up to the start of the £1,500 treatment. His legs were operated on immediately, and medical personnel moved him to an intensive care unit at a local hospital. Much they tried, despite them working around the clock, Latchman passed away later that day.

Dr. Cinik’s clinic has earned an international reputation for their specialization and quality in FUE hair restoration. So far, they have done successfully over 70,000 procedures. Ahead of getting hair put back on his head, the man had a “meltdown” according to the spokesperson quoted from the clinic responding to the incident. The legal fight is far from over. In honor of the family’s privacy at this time, we are unable to provide additional information.

After his death, Latchman’s body was flown back to the UK for funeral preparations. His family and friends have been mourning on social media. Yashley Latchman, a close relative, shared an emotional tribute:

“You will forever be my source of inspiration and motivation. Thanks for everything. Will miss u loads.” – Yashley Latchman

The sudden nature of Latchman’s death has left a hole that has reverberated throughout his local community. Most vividly, they recall the kind of teacher he was. As a teacher, mentor and inspirational figure to thousands of students over decades at Goldington Academy, he shall be sorely missed.

Truth is, investigations into this tragic event are ongoing. In the meantime Latchman’s family continues to seek answers and process their tremendous loss. The community stands with Latchman as she faces this difficult time. They ponder how much his legacy looms over the education discourse, and are extremely inspired by his dedication to self-betterment, as evidenced by him getting a hair transplant.
