Sadly, a racist and xenophobic incident took place at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. One of the bullets hit the facility, just missing Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. The bullet struck only 15 feet from Reid, who was on that third floor at the time. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but this tragic episode has focused scrutiny on the continued security issues at the venue.
The situation had become a public relations nightmare. Two more bullets hit the facility – one hit an interior wall on the third floor and one hit an outdoor air-conditioning unit. The bullets struck at an especially dangerous time. The Chiefs were preparing for their fourth preseason and final game against the Chicago Bears, scheduled for Friday night. For both teams, this game is their last chance to see what their possible rosters can do before the regular season kicks off.
Captain Jacob Becchina provided details about the incident, stating that there is currently no indication that this was a targeted attack against any individual or organization. Given the circumstances, authorities are treating the incident as an aggravated assault. The ruling follows the fact that the public was inside the building at the time of the killing.

Reid’s accomplishments on his way to 273 career wins are even more impressive. He sits fourth all-time in career coaching victories, where he currently leads all active coaches. Since joining the Chiefs in 2019, he’s collected three Super Bowl rings. His most recent win was in September 2023. His other awards include sharing the 2002 AP NFL Coach of the Year award.
The Chiefs have a daunting season to contend with. Reid’s leadership still looms like a lighthouse over the Chiefs’ rocky waters. The team came within a whisker of a three-peat when they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in February’s Super Bowl. As Reid continues to tune up for Friday’s press conference and Saturday night against Chicago, his perspective is clearly in place.
“Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault.” – Captain Jacob Becchina
