Burglars brazenly carried out a Hollywood-style elaborate pitch black at Love Jewels. This audacious crime cited above took place on Broadway Street in downtown Los Angeles. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Sunday and remained undiscovered until employees arrived for work on Monday morning. Early estimates suggest that the thieves walked away with roughly $10 million worth of goods. This figure is likely to increase as the investigation continues.
The thieves accessed the store by digging under a concrete wall. KTTV found security video that recorded the noise of a drill visible during the robbery. She knew the noise definitely was coming from behind the store. Los Angeles Police Department Officer David Cuellar verified this method of entry as standard procedure. He continued, “They had to tunnel through several feet of concrete to get into the target area.” This complex scheme involves a degree of planning and resolve that suggests infamous suspect intent.
The loot ranges from luxury watches, to winged pendants, to gold chains with bumble bees on them. Those early estimates pegged the value of the stolen goods at $10 million. As the owner of Love Jewels told CNN, the total loss might be more than $20 million with more assessments still in progress.
The burglars crawled through the opening they’d cut into the wall. Then they crawled into the cab of a late-model Chevy one-ton and sped off. An inside job? Law enforcement has not disclosed how many culprits were behind the theft. They’re taking the lead in trying to jumpstart that investigation.
On Tuesday, phone calls and emails were sent to the jewelry store as authorities sought more information about the crime. Officer Cuellar and his crew are doing some great detective work to get all the facts together about this brilliant smash and grab.
