On September 10th, 2025, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. This particular incident occurred in Orem, Utah. Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA and leader of a number of other, similar political organizations, was 31 years old as he stood before the attendees. About 20 minutes into his presentation something surprising happened.
The event, part of Turning Point USA’s “American Comeback Tour,” featured Kirk seated at his “prove me wrong table,” designed for debating individuals who challenge his views. Witnesses recalled the pandemonium as the shot went off, sending people at the event diving for cover.
“As soon as this shot rang out, everybody hit the deck, and then everybody started scattering and yelling and screaming, as you might imagine,” – Jason Chaffetz
The bullet’s trajectory went through Kirk’s neck and lodged in his shoulder, causing severe damage to his spinal cord. Responders quickly rushed him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery. The university’s administration told anyone on campus at the time to lock themselves in their location and wait as police worked to protect them.

>Turning Point USA has been among the most powerful organizations in conservative politics, especially during the age of Trump. Kirk is the deeply devoted disciple of former President Donald Trump. He is widely known as a leading proponent of the Big Lie — that Joe Biden stole the 2020 election from Trump. His organization fought tirelessly to partner with Trump’s campaign — though not really — during the 2024 election cycle. In late May, Kirk had a private meeting with Trump in the Oval Office.
Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, posted this biblical verse shortly after the shooting as a way of testifying to her faith in God amidst such a tragic situation.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” – Erika Kirk
Former President Trump asked Americans to pray for Kirk and hailed him as a “very very nice guy and a very good person.”
“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot,” – Donald Trump
“A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” – Donald Trump
California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the attack as “disgusting, vile and reprehensible,” calling for an unequivocal rejection of political violence from all leaders.
“In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form,” – Gavin Newsom
Kirk was supposed to be coming back to Utah for another one of these events on September 30th at Utah State University. As news of the shooting spread, many prominent figures in politics and media expressed their concern for Kirk and his family.
Senator JD Vance wanted to be sure our support was communicated to Kirk, as he struggles through this tragic period.
“Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and young father,” – JD Vance
In response, the university released a statement requesting for patience and understanding. All of them have been very diligent to keep the public informed about the still-ongoing investigation.
“We ask for your patience throughout this process. We are providing updates as best as possible. This is an ongoing and unfolding event,” – UVU
