In this, her first run for public office, Dr. Anna Chacon, a 39-year-old dermatologist in Coral Gables, Miami, has actually done it. Just in 2024, she’s brought in an incredible $870,000. Her extraordinary income is a result of her main practice, supplemented by enormously lucrative telehealth contracts that go statewide and even nationwide. Less than 8% of U.S. physicians can claim the educational achievement of multiple medical licenses, but it’s one that Dr. Chacon has recently earned. This makes her unique in a workforce of barely more than a million active licensed physicians.
Now with a thriving private practice in Coral Gables, Dr. Chacon continues to see patients virtually and in person. She frequently travels to various locations, including Raton, New Mexico, and Puerto Rico, to meet the needs of her patients while maintaining her licensing requirements. Her creative hybrid business model lets her attract a wide range of clients while making the most money possible.
Yet Dr. Chacon’s path to being a licensed practitioner across four states took serious time and money. She invested close to $180,000 in licensing fees and the burdensome costs of red tape, tests, traveling to testing locations, etc.
“You have to do a lot of paperwork to apply. There’s a lot of fees, there’s sometimes tests, sometimes you have to go in person,” said Dr. Chacon.
Even with the mounting challenges, she harbors no regrets on her decision to pursue nationwide licensure.
“It is really expensive and I have no regrets doing it,” she added.
Her father’s experience as a physician indelibly influenced her professional course. When he was furloughed from a Miami-area hospital in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, it fueled her drive to obtain licensures to be able to practice in several states. Dr. Chacon remembers that most people thought her goals were unrealistic.
“People did think I was crazy at the time, including my dad,” she noted.
After all, Dr. Chacon’s income doesn’t come just from her work as a practicing physician. She enriches herself by renting out two other properties, including a $2 million house outside Miami that she has never occupied. Her diverse strategies to earn income illustrate her commitment to not just find financial success, but to best serve patients in every corner of the country.
and working upwards of 120 hours per week, Dr. Chacon is a shining example of dedication to her craft. She explains that in part, acknowledging where there is a need in the healthcare space has been integral to her booming success.
“I’ve discovered that when you see an area of need and something you really like [that’s] when things really flourish and you discover a path towards success,” Dr. Chacon stated.
