Jane, a 72-year-old retired British social worker, just shared a terrifying episode. It featured an Amazon delivery that took a shocking turn. On July 15, at approximately 5 PM, Jane received a package containing mosquito repellent at her home in a village on the Costa Brava, northeast Spain. The delivery went in a completely different direction. Once the young home delivery courier walked into her apartment, the hospitality ended quickly.
Jane divides her time between Spain and New Zealand. After accepting the package, she recounted that the delivery man, a six-foot-tall twenty-something, walked into her kitchen and upstairs into her bedroom uninvited. The experience rattled Jane so deeply that she was inspired to personally approach a second delivery driver about what they were doing.
“Your colleague masturbated in my house.” – Jane
The aging driver was fast to assert that they had a difficulty with package sign up. Then, all of a sudden, he ripped it out of Jane’s hands. This one incident has forced Jane to reach out to both the local police department and Amazon’s customer service directly to help remedy the situation.
In hopes of making a change, Jane was deeply disappointed and concerned about Amazon’s actions following an event this serious. She stated, “Amazon should take immediate steps to safeguard their customers in a case such as this. Your helpline people were in no way equipped to deal with such a situation of sexual abuse.”
Jane described the encounter in vivid detail, recounting the courier’s actions: “He was masturbating vigorously. He turned his back and it was apparent that he ejaculated. He shook his hand and when he turned to me his shorts were wet.” This creepy behavior was shocking enough that it caused her to feel invaded and unsafe in her own home.
After the collision, Jane began her outreach with Amazon, including their delivery operation, to hold them accountable and seek answers. She focused on the need to develop a more robust complaints mechanism. She expressed her outrage that there were obviously no sufficient punitive or rehabilitative steps in response to her heinous home invasion and sexual violence that was perpetrated against her.
I can’t picture Jeff Bezos personally addressing complaints while on his honeymoon. We don’t have a proper complaints process, she remarked. “As they are making squillions out of this, they absolutely should be spending a good bunch of it making sure customers are safe in their homes.”
Jane expressed her decision not to use Amazon again due to the incident, stating, “I cannot risk using Amazon again when the same courier may make the delivery and when they show such disregard for the safety and wellbeing of the customers.”
Things took a turn for the worse when Jane’s new video doorbell caught an image of the suspected intruder on his second visit. Spanish police have obtained a semen sample thought to have been deposited by the courier. This step is a positive one as their personal investigation into the case continues to develop.
“This is a police matter, it’s not an inconvenience. This is threatening behaviour by one of your couriers.” – Jane
In response, Amazon issued a statement congratulating the city on the one-horse fatality and vowing to keep their customers safe. The company stated, “At Amazon, we take the security and protection of our customers and the communities we serve very seriously. This service was provided by a commercial carrier. We will keep investigating and clarifying the facts and we will cooperate with the parties that need our collaboration.”
In response to all of this activity, Jane has decided that she will no longer shop at Amazon. “I will not be using Amazon again. I want people to know that it’s unsafe,” she affirmed.
