He is creating a new political party—he is calling it the “America Party.” This development comes after Musk contributed over $280 million to various candidates, predominantly supporting Donald Trump, while backing other Republican candidates during the election cycle.
Musk’s announcement follows a period of significant involvement in political affairs, particularly his efforts to promote a smaller federal government through the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). He played a crucial role implementing Trump’s priorities. He withdrew from his post in May after his special government employee term expired.
On May 30, 2025, Musk was seen applauding in the Oval Office during a press conference with Trump at the White House. His support hasn’t been without bombast. Perhaps most importantly, Musk is vehemently opposed to Trump’s industry-killing domestic policy package—aka the Infrastructure Week debacle. This rift has led to very public spats between the two.
In light of these tensions, Musk suggested that the new America Party could focus on securing “just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.” He said one of those strategies could have the most far-reaching effects on legislative outcomes.

That’s what Musk is counting on, quite possibly because he knows razor-thin legislative margins can feel like a big. Even a few seats can tip the balance on high-profile controversial legislation. He dubbed it “the PORKY PIG PARTY” because he feels the last few bills passed are just examples of out of control spending.
