Exploring Ethical Non-Monogamy: A Journey of Two Partners

Previously married, Jimmy and Gavin now enjoy a life together consistent with their practice of ethically non-monogamy. This decision has changed their marriage, even with an 11-year age difference. The couple share a fulfilling and robust sex life now. We’ve found that this setup allows them to both pursue new relationships and continue developing their friendship. They began exploring non-monogamy in their third year. This decision was due to both women’s desire to improve their sexual experiences.

Gavin’s 63 and ready to retire. He can more easily meet potential partners online and invite them over during the day. At the same time, Jimmy, who’s never really dated anyone but older men, has had a real interest in furthering their relationship. He said he would be open to meeting a third, as long as both of his partners were okay with the situation. Knowledge and dialogue have been central to our shared success thus far, though there are still uncharted waters ahead.

“There was some sexual frustration in our early years together, and that led us to discover that we were both ethically non-monogamous,” Gavin explained. This discovery led to one of them creating a shared Tinder profile, opening up their experience to other people.

It is due Jimmy and Gavin’s open attitude towards sexuality that a safe culture for exploration has occurred. Despite the generational gap, they’ve taken their time in developing the kind of personal connection that allows both players to feel safe and honorable. Jimmy especially has been sensitive to this distinction, but Gavin has continued to be open to his suggestions.

“We took our time in understanding each other’s perspectives,” Gavin stated. “Well, maybe one day we could explore bringing in other people.” This openness has been evident throughout their relationship, as they engage in discussions regarding potential partners while prioritizing one another’s comfort levels.

Their vibrant, adventurous sex life is still a key part of their marriage. Since they’ve shared an emotional bond about once a week, their deep connection to one another is pretty powerful. As Jimmy and Gavin explored ethical non-monogamy, they opened up new depths in their relationship. Their sexual intimacy together deepened and blossomed annually.

“To eat my cake and have it,” Gavin said when looking back on what he loved about their setup. This simple statement conveys a remarkable sense of freedom and self-actualization they’ve experienced thanks to ethical non-monogamy. Through defined structure and transparency, they have co-created an interpersonal ecosystem that feels really good for both of them.
