U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem responded by saying that federal agents had seized the Soliman family. Soliman is now the prime suspect in a recent series of firebomb attacks in Boulder, Colorado. This welcome news was announced in the course of her testimony before the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee on May 6, 2025. The hearing was aimed at oversight of the Department of Homeland Security and covered a wide range of urgent matters within the large agency.
The fire attack that happened this past Sunday, injuring dozens of protesters on the march who were calling for greater awareness to Gaza hostages. After the crash, Noem immediately went to X, formerly known as Twitter. She outlined the arrest of Soliman’s family, and the continuing investigation into their alleged knowledge of or support for the attack.
“In her post, Noem stated, “Today, @DHSgov and @ICEGov are taking the family of suspected Boulder, Colorado terrorist, and illegal alien, Mohamed Soliman, into ICE custody.”
Officials have opened a criminal investigation. They’re trying to determine whether or not Soliman’s family was aware of his plans or assisted him prior to the fire-based attack. Noem emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting, “This terrorist will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We are investigating to what extent his family knew about this heinous attack, if they had knowledge of it, or if they provided support to it.”
Even more alarming than the Boulder fire attack itself are the implications this incident holds for public safety and domestic terrorism. As more information comes to light, Noem said her priority is the fight for justice for the victims. She stated, “I am continuing to pray for the victims of this attack and their families. Justice will be served.”
During her testimony at the hearing, Noem stressed the importance of accountability for those in charge. She provided no further details about the investigation. Mohamed Soliman, who was recently arrested on attempted murder charges for his role in the attack.
