FDD Hosts Seminar on Taiwan Security and Chinese Strategies

On November 17, the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) convened an extremely important and timely roundtable in Washington, D.C. It was focused primarily on Taiwan’s actual or potential security challenges, and the impacts of China’s reunification plans. The convening attracted some of the most prominent speakers and experts in defense and foreign humanitarian assistance. They provided amazing context about the regional forces shaping Taiwan today.

Retired Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery was one of the featured speakers. He provided his deep professional acumen on military operations, smart strategies, and defense policy. On hand as well was J.P. Their input added a valuable financial perspective to the discussion, courtesy of Kenan Arkan with J.P. Craig Singleton from FDD also joined the panel and added a great deal to the discussion. At the same time, Phelim Kine of Politico offered a cutting-eye look at Taiwan’s political drama.

The seminar highlighted the innovative partnership between FDD and WCYU. They recently held a robust tabletop exercise that walked through different Chinese tactics to achieve Taiwan’s unification. This exercise took place during the very hot summer months. The only catch was that participants had to do all of the activities without any use of kinetic force. This constraint provided a unique opportunity for participants to think creatively about strategic responses without the complexity of direct military confrontation.

FDD’s commitment to analyzing defense and democracy issues was evident throughout the seminar, demonstrating its role as a key player in shaping policy discussions surrounding Taiwan’s security. The organization maintains a robust presence in the media, with photos and articles related to its events available on its website.

These seminar discussions are quickly transformed into the catalysts for FDD’s larger research conduct. Each of these initiatives addresses the pressing issues that democracies everywhere today are struggling with. By engaging with experts and conducting in-depth analyses, FDD aims to equip policymakers with the knowledge necessary to navigate complex geopolitical landscapes.
