Three siblings from a well-known Florida family of developers—Oren, Alon and Tal Alexander—are in the midst of their own federal trial in Manhattan. They are unconvicted as they have been accused of sexual abuse that covers decades. The brothers are speaking out after being charged with raping and sexually assaulting hundreds of women. They further moved victims among multiple East Coast cities, including New York City, FL, and on board a cruise ship.
The trial is likely to last around a month, with prosecutors presenting their case first against the Alexanders. Separately, Oren and Alon Alexander have entered not-guilty pleas on a new charge. This charge is a result of their actions on a cruise during the inaugural Capital Pride in January 2012, when they allegedly beat an unconscious woman. The indictment is based on those efforts and an eight-page criminal referral from the House Oversight Committee filed in the southern district of New York in December 2024.
The prosecution’s case depends largely upon the testimonies of two girls. They were both minors when they reported their alleged assaults in 2009. In all, at least six other witnesses referred to in the indictment are anticipated to take the stand. So far, investigators have spoken to some 60 women about their experience of these alleged crimes. As many as 15 to 20 other cameo witnesses are expected to testify.
The brothers’ charges include conspiracy to abduct women for the purpose of rape, which has a maximum punishment of life in prison. If convicted, they are both subject to the possibility of life imprisonment.
Representing the brothers is the same New York law firm that defended Sean “Diddy” Combs in his recent sex trafficking and kidnapping case. Juda Engelmayer, a spokesperson for the defense team, suggested that there was no basis for the allegations to begin with.
“This federal case is built largely on allegations tied to events said to have occurred years ago in Florida that were first pursued through civil litigation,” – Juda Engelmayer
Engelmayer lamented the overarching prosecution posture, noting that the civil suits were blown up prior to the formulation of the federal prosecution.
“The government has now repackaged those civil allegations under an expansive and unprecedented interpretation of the act; one that stretches the statute far beyond its original purpose,” – Juda Engelmayer
The emotional cost on the Alexander family has been incalculable. Lehigh’s Orly and Shlomi Alexander went on record opposing the deal.
“The emotional toll has been immense, not only on our sons but on our entire family.” – Orly and Shlomi Alexander
They touched on their faith in their son’s innocence and prayer that a fair judicial process would come to fruition.
“We know who our boys are, and we believe in their innocence. We trust that when the evidence is examined carefully and fairly in a courtroom… the truth will emerge,” – Orly and Shlomi Alexander
As the trial proceeds, all eyes will be on what happens next. Katherine Kallergis, an award-winning real estate industry journalist, reported the case’s implications for the family and far beyond.
“Oren and Tal were prominent real-estate brokers, so this was a huge story for the real-estate industry,” – Katherine Kallergis
She understood that in this case the public would be understandably focused on how the prosecutor delivers its evidence. Specifically, they would be looking for any mentions of videos or other co-conspirators.
“People want to see what the prosecution presents because they’ve referenced videos… so who else are they going to name?” – Katherine Kallergis
The trial will be replete with such testimony from dozens of expert witnesses. Most of these people are directly impacted by the brothers’ alleged crimes, and they will provide insight into the brothers’ behavior over the years.
From the very beginning of this story, the Alexanders have claimed their innocence at every step in these proceedings, claiming that all relationships were consensual. Engelmayer certainly meant to suggest that this defense will be at the very heart of their case.
“The evidence will show that these were consensual adult relationships… nothing of value was obtained or withheld,” – Juda Engelmayer
As days go by in court, each side will tell their stories and show their evidence. It remains to be seen what the final outcome will be. Each side is preparing for a protracted battle over charges that have already ruined lives and reputations.
