The French government is reportedly preparing to distribute a "survival manual" to households across the nation, encouraging citizens to assemble a comprehensive "survival kit." This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance national preparedness against various crises. The survival kit is recommended to include essential supplies such as at least six litres of water, a dozen tins of food, batteries, a torch, and basic medical supplies like paracetamol, compresses, and saline solution.
The survival manual, which is reportedly 20 pages long, will be divided into three sections. The first section will provide guidance on how individuals can protect themselves and others in times of crisis. The second section will contain instructions on the steps to take if an imminent threat arises. Finally, the third section will offer advice on how citizens can contribute to defending their communities.
A spokesperson from the Prime Minister's office commented on the purpose of the document.
“The purpose of this document is to ensure the resilience of populations in the face of all types of crisis, whether natural, technological, cyber or security-related.”
French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the importance of being prepared for potential threats, highlighting the need for self-reliance and readiness.
“Our country and our continent must continue to defend itself, to equip and to prepare if we want to avoid war. Nobody can say what will happen in the months or years to come. What I want is for us to be ready. What I want is for us to be protected.”
In addition to encouraging preparation within France, Macron also addressed concerns about international alliances, particularly with the United States.
“I want to believe the US will stay by our side, but we have to be ready if they don’t.”
The proposed manual and survival kit aim to fortify the resilience of French citizens against a wide range of potential crises. The government's initiative reflects its commitment to ensuring that the nation is equipped to handle various challenges independently.
