General Motors Initiates Recall of Nearly 600,000 Vehicles Over Engine Concerns

That wasn’t the only big news on Tuesday. General Motors (GM) announced its largest recall ever. Nearly 600,000 SUVs and trucks in the United States are potentially facing catastrophic engine failures. The recall is extremely broad, covering all models built 2021 through 2024. These risk being some of the most popular models that folks consider to be high-performing and reliable.

Among the affected vehicles is the General Motors’ Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV. They include the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL. All these models are available with muscular 6.2L V8 gas engines. Owners have described an alarming pattern of complaints and incidents that have been left unaddressed.

GM breached its duty to recall far sooner by recognizing 28,102 field complaints or incidents in the U.S. alone. Failure to address these issues has likely been directly tied to engine failures. According to one oil analysis report, these catastrophic failures may be caused by failure of the crankshaft, connecting rods, or engine bearings. The automaker is commendingly going above and beyond to prevent these concerns and protect its customers’ safety.

The recall aims to address an issue that may lead to engine stall. This problem endangers vehicle performance and jeopardizes driver safety. GM will contact impacted vehicle owners when the recall is launched with further details and instructions for getting the recall performed.
